…and welcome to The Attic.

News Flash!Pewter and Silver Tray

I’m in Staffordshire setting up for the Stafford Bingley Hall Antiques

Fair what a great Fair this is going to be.  I’ve turned up with my new display stand that I hope will greatly improve how the collection of Pewter and Silver I have brought will look.  I’ve also brought my famous toys.  This is my first time at this show and as we are all setting up, I’m already meeting some lovely people who are a different crowd of exhibitors than I usually see here. My toys at the show also include some new Robots and Space toys as well as my now famous Schuco collection.  No Piggy Chef as those of you might already know…..you’ll have to wait and watch BBC’s Bargain Hunt to find out more!  Probably my 3 minutes of fame! Toys on display on the stand Anyway, make sure you come to the show and say hello at the stand, follow this link for the details.  Getting Here See You Soon,

Annie

40yearsribbonThis week-end, I will be at Staffordshire Fairground for the antiques fair on Saturday and Sunday.  Celebrating its 40th year this is a great show to see all sorts of antiques ranging from Furniture to of course My favourites toys and Arts and Crafts.

Steiff Lying Leopard – possible store display – huge 34 inches!

Steiff Lying Leopard head

Item:            Steiff Lying Leopard – possible store display – huge 34 inches!
Circa:            1950’s
Condition:   Good used condition (see additional information)

This huge Steiff Lying Leopard, with mesmerising glow-in-the-dark green eyes, is truly a rare find. This Steiff leopard most likely headlined as a store display for the Steiff Lying Leopard range, introduced in the 1950’s and which featured numerous different sizes of this lovely leopard.

The leopard is composed of mohair and straw filled, with floss stitched nose and paw outlines. This vintage leopard still retains three of its original whiskers and its steely green-eyed stare, although he is lacking his nickle ear button and neck pendant. This big beauty has survived well over the years, however, it is not without its faults. There is damage to tail end and light damage to the left ear along with hair loss around the ears.

Steiff Lying Leopard – Extra large!

This is a beautiful toy and a long term collectable, perfect for a child’s nursery.  I love it and my dog will stand staring at its eyes for minutes.

Hope you like it,

See you soon,

NEC Toy Fair September 22nd Event

Annie's Stand at the NEC

Annie’s stand at the NEC

For those of you who didn’t make it to the NEC Toy Fair on the 22nd you missed a great event.  I had some great new toys on show including a number of new Schuco toys and of course the usual collection of curios.

I also took a collection of signs which doesn’t normally fit in with the toys I bring but always get interest.

Schuco’s Are a Favourite with Collectors

The show had a slow start, there didn’t seam to be the volume of dealers about that attended earlier in the year, but when the public started to come it, the show filled up very quickly.

NEC

The “Am Pol” a Classic Toy I was sad to see go.

The crowd pleasers were “The Piggy Barbecue” and “Lunar Landing Module” and  brought a lot of interest as did my favourite and probably the star of the show the “Am Pol” , the 1908 tin toy which was produced to commemorate Perry reaching the north pole.  The toy was originally was originally designed as and called the New Century Cycle, but was re-crafted to commemorate Perry’s landmark event in April of 1909.   A boxed version of the toy sold in the US for over $6,000.  Later in the show it was actually sold, so it feltlike saying goodbye to a familiar friend.

Well I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the stand and some of the toys and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I hope to see you at the Birmingham Motorcycle Museum on the 27th of October, I’ll definitely be there.

See you soon,

Annie

Annie's Signs Get Interest

Annie loves toys, but also can’t keep here eyes of old collectable signs.

image of crystal bowl

Victorian Anglo-Irish Crystal Lidded Bowl c.1850-90

A Superb Quality, Hand-crafted Antique Crystal Lidded Bowl – mid to late 19th Century

This exquisite crystal bowl with lid is in excellent condition. It is most likely of Anglo-Irish production during the early to mid 1800’s. The body of the bowl has a deeply cut diamond and starburst pattern and the rim of the bowl is mitre cut, with the lid fitting soundly in place. The lid carries through the diamond and starburst pattern, with a stepped knop handle which is finished at the top in a circular star cut.

The lidded bowl is of high quality, deeply hand-cut and with a slight grey tint typical of the period. When lifting or replacing the lid to the bowl, it makes the most beautiful resounding ring so typical of fine, antique crystal.

Dimensions:
Width: 6.5 inches (16.5 cm)
Height: 5.5 inches (14 cm) with lid in place, measures 3.5 inches (8.75 cm) bowl only
Weight: 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg)

Condition:
There are minor nibbles to the mitred rim and base which are commensurate with age and tiny imperfections owing to its hand-craftsmanship, however, they are much less than would be expected of an item of its years. There are no chips or damage to the item and its minor imperfections do not detract from its beauty and nature as a fine piece of collectible crystal.
