This huge Steiff Lying Leopard, with mesmerising glow-in-the-dark green eyes, is truly a rare find. This Steiff leopard most likely headlined as a store display for the Steiff Lying Leopard range, introduced in the 1950’s and which featured numerous different sizes of this lovely leopard.
The leopard is composed of mohair and straw filled, with floss stitched nose and paw outlines. This vintage leopard still retains three of its original whiskers and its steely green-eyed stare, although he is lacking his nickle ear button and neck pendant. This big beauty has survived well over the years, however, it is not without its faults. There is damage to tail end and light damage to the left ear (please see additional information) along with hair loss around the ears.

| Condition: | Overall very good vintage condition, especially for such a large piece. However, there is a tear at the top of the tail where it is joined to the hind end. Stitching is visible in the area where a repair may have been attempted and the straw filling is visible between stitches. In addition, there is loss of mohair around the ears and, under close examination, the left ear appears to be partly restitched to the front. Amazingly, three of his original whiskers are still intact (2 on the right and 1 on the left). These small imperfections could largely be repaired and in on way detract from the beauty of this lovely, large leopard. |
