HWN Air Transport Service Car Ferry tin friction airplane

£395

Item:     HWN Air Transport Service Car Ferry
Origin:  West Germany,  c. 1950

A real rarity, this friction tin linthograph Air Transport Service Car Ferry was made by Heinrich Wimmer Nurnber (HWN) in West Germany around 1950. The airplane is incredibly well lithographed in every detail and the box has amazing graphics – full of imagery.

The twin-engine, dual boom plane is brightly lithographed with Air Transport and HWN S-72 markings. This rare toy is most likely modeled on the Fairchild C-82 Packet, a US engineered heavy freight aircraft (predecessor to the Hercules) which was nicknamed “The Flying Boxcar”.

This toy model model is 13 inches long and has a 13.5 inch wingspan (33 cm x 35 cm). It has a strong friction motor, and when you open the clear plastic nose cone, a small green VW-type car rolls out – nice!

Amazingly, the toy is complete and in excellent working order. The box is also near perfection, with wonderful graphics surrounding all four sides and even the end flaps.

Condition:
Not much more praise left to be heaped on this magnificent toy. The condition is excellent. The lithograph is strong and bright, barely a mark. There are scratches/marks on the lift-off plastic nose cap, nothing major. All-in-all, a near perfect toy with an excellent box to match.
