Item:     Capital Brewing Co. Olympia Beer Tray
Origin:  USA, c.1902

Produced around 1902 as an advertising tray for their Pale Export, this antique tin lithographed Capital Brewing Co. Olympia Beer tray has survived extremely well. The centre of the pictorial tray bears the image of an Art Nouveau nymph, holding a frothy draft, as she rides atop a bottle of Pale Export.

The outside edge is decorated in Art Nouveau style with barley shafts and “Olympia Brewing Co.” The tray measures 13 inches in diameter (33 cm).

The Capital Brewing Company was founded in 1896 in Tumwater, near Olympia, Washington, and “Olympia Pale Export” was their first beer. In 1902 Capital Brewing Co. became the Olympia Brewing Co. and Olympia Beer was their flagship brand.

Condition:
Overall the tray is in very good condition. The lithographed colours, central image and edges are nice and bright. There is age-related wear including very minial scratches and small dents, as well as scattered pitting at the outside of the centre near the edge. The back of the tray has scratches, scuffs and scattered pitting – no large areas of wear. Despite these signs of age, the tray is in extremely good condition and makes a stunning presentation – the central image is excellent.
